Cennina

THE CASTELLO DI CENNINA

Our future base at Cennina is a beautifully restored 12th century borgo (walled village) perched on a secluded ridge amidst olive groves and vineyards in the sun-drenched Chianti hills of Tuscany. It provides a delightfully inspiring and convivial venue for our meetings, conferences, seminars, workshops, and multi-stakeholder group work.

Cennina is located 10 minutes from the local train station at Búcine between Florence and Arezzo on the Paris-Rome line, 20 minutes from Siena, 1 hr from Florence airport, 90 minutes from Pisa, and two hours from Rome.

Named after an Etruscan fertility Goddess, Cennina has been inhabited since 800 BCE. The castle and houses are a gem of Tuscan vernacular architecture, listed as a National Historical Monument. Abandoned after WWII, the castello has been beautifully restored by the artist Osvaldo Righi and hundreds of volunteers from around the world. Cennnina is renowned for its artistic and musical events.

future plans

We have completed a detailed business plan and 3-D model of final architectural renovations to develop Cennina as a world-class international centre of learning, culture and communication for a sustainable future. We intend to add a new state-of-the-art conference hall and media production suite in the upper levels of the castle, comfortable accomodation for 73 to 100 guests in the houses, along with a sauna and pool. We are now seeking philanthropic support to do this and cover the Centre's first two years of operations.
