GM-FREE IRELAND NETWORK

National Co-ordinator

Global Vision invites nominations and applications for the Co-ordinator of the GM-free Ireland Network, a coalition of 130 diverse stakeholder organisations collaborating to keep the island of Ireland free of GM food and farming. See www.gmfreeireland.org for details.

We are looking for a fearless, motivated, proactive, mature individual to take over the job from the Network's founder who has co-ordinated this project since 2004. You will lead the Network's public awareness and lobbying campaigns on behalf of its member organisations representing over 22,000 people. You will be the principal administrator of the organisation, taking the lead in developing communication strategies, plans and actions involving stakeholders, partners, and members.

Ideally you will be an Irish citizen and/or be familiar with the mores of Irish political and civil society.

Responsibilities:

administration, organisational development, fund-raising and community organising;

serving as national information centre, watchdog and whistleblower on GM issues;

lobbying politicians and civil servants in the Irish Government, Northern Ireland Assembly, European Parliament, European Commission and related regulatory bodies;

building public awareness through PR, TV, radio, print media, web site, conferences, seminars, workshops, expert briefings, community meetings, debates, discussions, press releases, newsletters, and email alerts;

production of printed reports, briefings, leaflets, flyers and other promotional materials;

identifying stakeholders' emerging information and service needs, and designing information products and services that meet these needs in a cost-effective way;

empowering and mobilising existing and new stakeholder groups to take responsibility for addressing the GM invasion through co-ordinated action programmes;

liaison and strategy co-ordination with collaborating partner organisations across Europe and the world;

representing the Network at national and international conferences and other fora;

holding the Irish Government and Northern Irish Assembly accountable to prevent any release of live GMOs on this island, and encourage a voluntary phase-out of GM animal feed.

Qualifications:

PhD, master's degree or equivalent knowledge / work experience in GM issues, environmental campaigning, lobbying, and community organising;

in-depth understanding of GM food and farming politics at Irish, EU and global levels;

sound knowledge of scientific, agronomic, environmental, economic, health, and legal aspects of GM food and farming issues;

outstanding entrepreneurial and social skills in community organising, stakeholder co-ordination, fund-raising, and public relations;

proven ability to create consensus in a multi-stakeholder environment, and effectively manage a small team;

excellent public relations, public speaking and writing abilities;

willingness to travel around Ireland and Europe;

high level of motivation, common sense, ingenuity, sense of humour, and dedication to development of Ireland's GM-free farming future;

psychological capacity to withstand personal abuse and ridicule from opposition groups;

good website management, graphic design and video production / editing skills a plus; familiarity with MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, FileMaker Pro, Photoshop, and HTML essential; knowledge of InDesign, Dreamweaver, MySQL and Final Cut Pro a plus;

EU work permit and driving license.
